The Average

This an average resulting from the multiplication of each component by a factor reflecting its importance. With regards to the 4C Culture model the average can be calculated in the following scenarios:

  • By individual questions
  • The elements of the 4C culture model
  • Different levels in the Level in the organisation
  • By Company

The average allows results from different groups with different populations sizes to be compared and analysed. The best way to understand a average is to see a worked example:

We can see the respondent has marked the question in the Agree column. We can now add a score (see figure 2) that allows the average to be calculated.

Average score: Total score (4) / Number of respondents (1) = 4 We can look at calculating a score when there is three respondents (see figure 3):

Average score:

Total score (9) / Number of respondents (3) = 3

We can see if all respondents selected Strongly agree then the score would be 15 and the average score 5 The highest score that could be obtained.

If all respondents selected strongly disagree then the score would be 3 and the average score 1. The lowest score that could be obtained.

The same principle can be used to calculate the responses from all managers and supervisors and Operatives allowing a comparison to be made between the two groups.
